Clinical-Grade Facials in Tulum

Not a spa facial with nice music — a protocol built around what your skin actually needs.

What makes a facial clinical

The difference is not the room, it is the concentration and the assessment. A clinical facial uses actives at levels that are only available under professional supervision — higher-percentage acids, enzymatic exfoliants, targeted peels — and applies them according to a protocol chosen after examining the skin. That combination is what produces measurable change rather than a pleasant hour.

What it improves

Acne and congestion in oily skin. Dehydration and barrier damage, which in this climate affects almost everyone by the end of a season. Uneven tone and dullness. The early loss of firmness that has not yet become laxity. The protocol changes what is treated: an acne-focused session and a barrier-repair session share very little beyond the room they happen in, which is why the price runs across a range.

Session and recovery

Between forty-five and seventy-five minutes depending on the protocol. Most leave with skin that looks brighter and calmer straight away. Protocols using stronger peels may bring a few days of light flaking; the gentler ones have no downtime at all, and which one you get is decided by your skin rather than by the appointment slot. Every protocol ends with SPF, not as an upsell but because leaving here without it undoes the work.

The skin is examined before the protocol is chosen, and the protocol changes between visits as the skin changes — which is the part most places skip in favour of a fixed menu. Aurora will also tell you when a facial is not the right spend: congested skin that needs extraction is a different problem from pigment that needs a laser, and paying for the wrong one is the most common way people conclude that facials do nothing.

Safety, side effects and aftercare

What to expect

Pinkness for an hour or two after most protocols. Sessions with stronger peels bring tightness and light flaking on days two to four. Occasional small blemishes surfacing after deep extraction, which is the congestion clearing.

When we don't treat

Peels and strong actives are not applied over active cold sores, open lesions or sunburn, on freshly tanned skin, during pregnancy in the case of certain acids, or while on isotretinoin. Active inflammatory rosacea and severe acne change the protocol rather than rule it out.

Aftercare

SPF 50 daily, and no direct sun for the days following a peel protocol. Hold retinol and acids at home for three to five days. Do not exfoliate flaking skin — let it lift on its own.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a spa facial?

The actives are at professional concentrations and the protocol is chosen after examining your skin, rather than picked from a menu. The experience is less about relaxation and more about a result you can see in the following days.

Why does the price vary so much?

Because the protocols do. A maintenance cleanse and a targeted peel with medical-grade actives require different products, time and aftercare. What your skin needs is decided at the visit, not at booking.

Can I do one on holiday?

The gentler protocols, yes — no downtime and you can be outdoors with proper SPF. Peel protocols need a few days out of direct sun, which is worth planning around here.

How often should I have one?

Monthly is the usual rhythm for a visible cumulative effect. As a single reset before an event, a gentler protocol does the job without any risk of flaking.
