Four brands, one family
“Botox” has become the everyday word for any wrinkle-relaxing injection, the way people say Kleenex for any tissue. Strictly speaking, BOTOX® is one brand, made by Allergan. It belongs to a family of botulinum toxins — neuromodulators that relax the small facial muscles behind dynamic wrinkles: forehead lines, the frown between the brows, crow’s feet. Dysport, Xeomin and Nabota do that same job. What changes between them is how the product behaves once it is placed: how far it spreads, how soon it starts, how clean the formulation is, and how it performs on larger muscles.
At Coconut Botox Tulum we don’t work with a single house brand. We keep all four certified brands in the clinic and choose per face, per area and per timeline — the same approach described on our Botox in Tulum page. Here is what each one brings.
BOTOX® (Allergan): the reference
The original, and the product that gave the whole treatment its name. Its strength is predictability: it is the reference point the other brands are compared against, which makes it a natural starting point for a first treatment, or for anyone who simply wants the most familiar option. When someone tells us “I had Botox before and I liked it”, this is usually where the conversation starts.
Dysport: broad areas, a quicker start
Dysport diffuses slightly more than the others and starts working a little sooner. That spread is an advantage on wide areas such as the forehead, where the goal is an even softening across a large surface rather than a precise point. The quicker onset also matters when a trip is short and every day of waiting counts.
Xeomin: the “naked” molecule
Xeomin carries the active molecule without the complexing proteins that accompany it in other formulations — which is why it is called “naked”. It is the option we consider for patients who may have built up resistance, the ones who notice their results are no longer what they were, and for anyone who prefers the purest formulation available.
Nabota: value on larger muscles
Nabota comes from Korea and has a clean profile. Its place in the clinic is the larger muscles: the masseter, for slimming the jawline and easing clenching, and the underarms, for sweating. Those areas take more units, and that is exactly where value per result starts to matter.

How the choice is actually made
There is no single best brand. There is the right one for a specific muscle, a specific goal and a specific calendar, and at your complimentary assessment we look at all three.
Muscle strength and area. A light forehead, a strong frown and a masseter are very different jobs. As a reference from our treatment page, frown lines (glabella) usually take 20–25 units, the forehead 10–20, crow’s feet 8–12 per side, a brow lift or a gummy smile 4–6, and the masseter 20–30 per side. The bigger and stronger the muscle, the more units — and the more a brand’s behaviour on large muscles comes into play.
Your goal. How much movement you want to keep. Our approach is restraint: a rested, refreshed version of you, never a frozen face. Dosing starts conservative, because you can always add more at a touch-up, but you cannot subtract.
Your timeline. How fast the result needs to settle. If you land in Tulum with a wedding or a photo shoot a few days away, how quickly each brand starts working becomes part of the decision.

What stays the same, whatever the brand
The brand changes the fine-tuning, not the experience. Your visit starts with a facial analysis and a conversation about how you want to look. The injection takes about 15–20 minutes with very fine needles, and most patients describe it as small pinches. There is no downtime: you can go back to the beach or to dinner, avoiding only intense exercise, saunas and lying face-down for the first hours. First effects appear around day 3 and the full result at day 10–14, with Dysport tending towards the earlier side. On average, results last three to five months — how long Botox lasts covers what moves that number.
Aftercare is the same as well: stay upright and avoid pressing the treated area for 4 hours; no intense exercise, sauna, steam room or facials for 24 hours; sun with SPF is fine after that. And the contraindications belong to the treatment, not the label: no neurotoxin during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis, or with a known allergy to botulinum toxin. An active infection in the area postpones the session.
What it costs
Neurotoxin at Coconut starts at $125 MXN per unit (about $7 USD; the dollar figure is a reference and moves with the exchange rate). Your total is the units you receive multiplied by the unit price. The number of units is agreed with you, in writing, before anything is injected, and you know which brand you are receiving and why. The consultation itself is complimentary, and we accept cash in MXN or USD and card.
One practical tip: when you compare quotes between clinics, compare the total written down for your face, not unit counts borrowed from another brand or another clinic. If you are visiting Tulum
Patients fly in from the United States, Canada and Europe and book their appointment for the start of the trip, so the result settles while they are still here. If a slight asymmetry appears, it is corrected at the two-week review, and we follow up by WhatsApp once you are home. Three questions to ask any clinic
Whichever brand you end up with, a good clinic answers these without hesitating: Which brand are you using on me, and why that one? How many units, and what is my total? Who reviews the result at two weeks? Is Xeomin the answer if Botox stopped working for me?
It is the option we consider when there may be resistance, because it has no complexing proteins. Whether it is right for you is decided at your assessment, after reviewing your history.
